diff -Nau /usr/portage/sys-apps/shadow/files/login.pamd{,.1} <-- is the only change there. So yeah, pretty much a user error if you customized that file before. See the syslog for what's wrong. Make also sure that there isn't an /etc/nologin file, or only root will be allowed to log in. Hi, Thanks for this so quick response. Fixed it by uncommenting pam_console in /etc/pam.d/login (new file here) Written as a comment in the file - only problem might be that it's commented by default, so any user blindly updating will be locked out of his box :-) Closing the Bug.
