What ? This is a version bump request, not a request for a "fix for php 5.2.2". I just mentioned that bug #177897 is ONE of the reasons for this version bump, but this is clearly not a duplicate.

Have a look at bug 180556 -- it tracks the security problems the new version solves and even contains an ebuild (+ patchset) for 5.2.3.
