During the patching of the source I get an error:

I looked at the hunk that fails .. it's just the  header comments in the kgreeter.h file .. so 
no damage done and it does run okay but should get a cosmetic fix none the less.

still present in kdebase-3.1.1a ebuild?

Patching in 3.1.1a doesn't seem to have this problem.
