I unmasked avidemux and tried to emerge it, but it failed.
Here are the USE flags:
[ebuild  N    ] media-video/avidemux-2.3.0  USE="alsa arts nls sdl vorbis xvid -a52 -aac (-altivec) -encode -esd -mad -oss -truetype -x264 -xv" 0 kB

I'll provide more info in attachments.

Same here. It worked with the useflag "truetype" enabled.
Did you try that?

Yes it works with truetype.
Still, it shouldn't crash like that without it.

Please try w/ 2.4_pre3 and reopen if you still have issues.
