During boot, the following (abbreviated) messages appears on the console:

Starting USB and PCI hotplugging...

insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs_pre6/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o:
init_module: No such device

insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs_pre6/kernel/drivers/net/e100/e100.o:
init_module:No such device

The above messages are repeated several times.

Immediately after the root shell prompt is displayed, the following is output to
the console:

Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 35.
Dazed and confused, but trying to continue
Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?

The above message is repeated three times.

After approx. 30-60 seconds, the system reboots.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert gentoo 1.4rc3 CD and boot
2. Select keyboard map
3. Watch insmod error messages
4. Wait until root shell prompt is displayed
5. Watch NMI error messages
6. System reboots

Actual Results:  
System reboots

Expected Results:  
System should not have displayed errors during boot and should not have rebooted.

Hardware: IBM x330 with 2xPIII 1,13 GHz, 1,5 GB RAM, Adaptec HBA (factory
installed), IBM ServeRaid HBA (factory installed), 2xIBM 18 GB hot-swap SCSI
disks, 2xEthernet built-in (Intel, supposedly).

The system has until now been running Red Hat Linux 8 with stock Red Hat kernels
without any problems whatsoever.

you may need to try latest iso at www.gentoo.org/~livewire
you can do a noapm, nohotplug, start acpi if needed.. 
also has 2 kernels.

Please test with latest version and reopen the bug if the problem persists.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
