I think esearch should print a warning message if the esearch DB is for instance 8 days or more older than the portage timestamp. This would be consistent with eg. slocate.

Unfortunately, esearch is no longer being maintained by the upstream developer. This will need a patch submitted in order to be fixed.

I had totally forgotten about this bug report, it is from 2007. I am all over on eix by now.

Wouldn't this be better left resolved as a WONTFIX. I'll be happy to close it as such.

Going ahead and closing as WONTFIX.  If anyone decides to do a patch, it can be reopened.
