I am suffering from MySQL which does not start when its added by rc-update. During the boot an error message appears saying "MySQL NOT started (0)" but the actual mysqld daemon is started and .pid, .sock files are created. If I comment out following lines from /etc/init.d/mysql everything seems to be ok: Code: if [[ ! -S "${socket}" ]] ; then eerror "MySQL${MY_SUFFIX} NOT started (${retstatus})" retstatus=1 else so the check is not evaluated at all. What is also strange is that if I try to launch MySQL manually after the boot it did NOT experience this problem EVER, no matter how many times I tried. I also know that this issue did not appear after a bunch of upgrades and installation of apache, tomcat and all related stuff but I am not sure that this is relevant. It might be a problem with the init script as it checks for .sock file which seems not to be present at that moment of time. MySQL version: dev-db/mysql-5.0.38, compiled with these flags: berkdb perl ssl. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. add mysql startup script to any level 2. restart 3. error message is displayed Actual Results: The error message is displayed and the state of mysql script says that it is not started, however, mysqld is actually running. Expected Results: The mysql should have started normally without any problems.
