Description Jon Hood 2007-05-11 14:14:21 UTC
If doing a standard install and clicking "recommended layout," changing partition types can be hazardous. For example, after the "recommended layout" was shown, I clicked on the large ext3 partition, deleted it, and made it reiserfs. After clicking "next", the partition setup still indicated that /dev/hda3 was an ext3 partition. If I manually change this to say "reiserfs", the installer will fail. Clicking the "recommended layout" button should not immediately perform all the tasks of partitioning the disks. It should, however, display a modifiable configuration of how the desks WOULD be should the installation process be continued.

Another possibility of resolving this issue is to not let the user have the option to change partitions after the recommended layout is displayed. I am not in favor of this as it seems to give the user less control over the installation process.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. standard install
2. recommended (partition) layout
3. change one of the partitions
Actual Results:
The partition type is not changed

Expected Results:
The partition type is changed per the user's request

agaffney, I've tried the installer twice and failed both times :(. Due to the current issues with the installer cd, do you think a new 2007.0 cd would be appropriate after some of the usability issues are resolved? This bug isn't a show-stopper either (I also filed bug #177674), but it does cause the install to fail. The current workaround is to restart the installer, and everything seems to be chugging along happily again.

I just tried this and didn't hit any problems. I did the following:

1) clicked Recommended Layout and let it create partitions
2) deleted the ext3 partition at /dev/sda3
3) created a reiserfs partition in its place
4) clicked Next
5) changed ext3 for /dev/sda3 to reiserfs on the mounts screen (this is bug 177624)
6) clicked Next twice
7) felt disappointed because everything worked perfectly

Ah, I forgot to click "update" after changing the line to "reiserfs". This is a duplicate report.
