Summary: Xorg falls back to software rendering for AIGLX
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: Martin Vysny <vyzivus>
Component: [OLD] UnspecifiedAssignee: Gentoo X packagers <x11>
Status: RESOLVED FIXED
Severity: normal

Hardware: AMD64
OS: Linux

Attachments: xorg.conf
xorg 7.2 log

Description Martin Vysny 2007-04-29 09:11:01 UTC
When Xorg is started, the log contains the following error:
(EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

I tried both ati-drivers 8.32.5 and 8.34.8 and Xorg 7.1 and Xorg 7.2. There seems to be a solution at http://lists.freshrpms.net/pipermail/freshrpms-list/2006-October/014231.html but I am not so skilled to test it myself.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start xorg

Actual Results:
AIGLX uses sw rendering

Expected Results:
AIGLX should use hw rendering

Unless I've missed the news recently, fglrx does not support AIGLX. You either have to use the open source radeon driver or use Xgl. Xgl is not in the official Portage tree, so you'll need to get it from an overlay.

fglrx now supports AIGLX and so does the opensource driver.

If you still have issues, please don't hesitate to reopen this bug.

Closing. Thanks
