any console output when you try to run it (run it in an xterm or something) ? I'm ashamed to say that I didn't even think of running it from xterm. Also, I tried searching bugzilla for "xdm," instead of "gdm," and I came up with this: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15844 I believe it's related to my problem. I'll try xterm a bit later and see what it comes up with. Sorry for the delay. Running gnome-terminal from xterm gives no output. you say when you 'login trough gdm' ? if you run gnome-terminal from clean X does it also fail ? In that case it's most likely that you don't have a shell set for your user. It works fine through startx. hm never saw your answer, but better late then never : did you have a shell set for your user ? If not, thats most likely the problem Closing, since its old, reopen if needed reporter. Yes, I do have a shell set for this user. I will try emerging XFree 4.3 as mentioned in the bug I referred to earlier, but it'll take me some weeks to get the time (and desire) to get it done. |
