Could you be more specific?  It's not linked against avahi (or howl or mdnsresponder) here, but I use --as-needed, so I don't get extraneous links.  In addition, why is this a problem?

If you think this is a real problem, then reopen this bug, and attach more usable info, like ldd output of relevant libs.
and your emerge --info.
