Additionally, net-dns/avahi-0.6.17 has been running quite properly here and a GCC stack smashing protection was introduced only in 0.6.18.

This build bug is not a bug with SSP, more with your architecture not having sys/inotify.h and/or the __NR_inotify_* syscall defines.
