LIVE CD : Latest Live CD does not see my disk which are controlled through the  via VT8237A chipset.

KERNEL DRIVER : In order to install the system I booted on the latest FEDORA 6.92 in order to have the latest module (as I did not find any gentoo's live CD which worked). I mount the disk, I installed a stage 3, I compile the kernel with VIA SATA SUPPORT and when I finally boot, grub launch but after the selection, said that hd(0,0) or sda1 is not known.






Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. compile the kernel with SATA VIA support
2. reboot
3. disk are not seen




I found out that the chipset is 1106:0591 and when i look into the kernel source, the reference exist (drivers/ata/sata_via.c) but I cannot find any accurate information.

The motherboard is MSI K9V GM- V
Processor is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ on socket AM2

Could you tell me *exactly* which LiveCD images you used?  We've had support for VIA SATA for a long time.

Also, it seems you are trying to report two bugs in one.  So both the LiveCD did not work and your own compiled kernel did not work?

Actually yes : I tried with the latest liveCD 2006.1 universal. 
My point is I think that the problem came from a stange version of the SATA controller which is not supported in the kernel : Thus, neither the live CD nor the module in the kernel work.

Does it make sense ?

I tried also with several other live distrib (such as ubuntu) and it doesn't work. I found out on the Internet that some people had the same problem except with a pre-realese of FEDORA 7.

Which kernel version did you use for your install? If it was gentoo-sources-2.6.19-r5 or newer, then your controller still will not be supported in the 2007.0 release media, as that's the kernel we're using.

I use the latest gentoo-sources (I donnot remember exactly the version) and I also tried with 2.6.20 (standard kernel).
If I understand well you told me to downgrade my kernel ?
