After a sync, /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask contains:

# Carsten Lohrke <carlo@gentoo.org> (31 Mar 2007)
# no point to bug around with beta releases
>=kde-misc/krusader-1.80.0_beta1.ebuild

This is of course wrong - you don't specify the ebuild file in the package.mask

The real bug seems to be that there's no validation of changes to the profile files until they hit the end users.

The symptom is fixed - the bug remains.  I see the bug not as the typo, but that the typo is allowed to hit the live tree without a validation step.

Indeed, symptom is fixed. Unfortuantely there is no validator like repoman for ebuilds for profiles and eclass stuff.

When you're keen on having the situation improved, the Portage team (and all other devs will) love, if you lend a helping hand.
