Bug 172757 – please add libusb to emul-linux-x86-*

Hello,

the scanning software VueScan, which is distributed only as a precompiled 32bit binary, needs libusb, but this is not provided by any of the emul-linux-x86 compatibility packages. It would be nice to include it, so that users do not have to install files manually by mining e.g. some SUSE rpms, and everything is under control of the Portage.

Maybe there are other 32bit programs which can make use of this library ...

You can make it yourself and stick into overlay with vuescan or whatever...

Yes, its very easy to make emul libs now, you should probably make a lib for the overlay where that program is.

oh great, no Gentoo anymore, just overlays ... then mark bug #54238 WONTFIX too because it depends on this ... and ask the documentation team to remove any text about ebuild submission, replacing it with "you can do it in your overlay" :-(

No, what this means, is that we normally dont add dependencies unless there is some program in the tree that requires it. You should just add the request to add libusb into the emul libs to the vuescan bug.

ok, then in my opinion it would be nice to add this as a blocker to the vuescan bug and mark this LATER - just adding the request to the vuescan bug does not seem correct to me, since that is another package (I thought there was policy of separate bugs for different packages?) and the libusb may be required by some other stuff (can't think of any right now, do not use so many closed-source programs ;-))

sorry for the impolite reaction, but I am just tired with the "do it in overlay" answers I keep getting over the last year (and half?) when trying to submit improvements

ok, I'll add a blocker so its easier to track it whenever a dev wants to add vuescan..
