emerge log
this happened twice but the log should be the same so i only attach it once.
i got a similar error when trying to emerge crystalspace on the same machine earlier ... i think it might be a gcc + amd64 bug. CC'ing amd64 arch just in case. i'll try updating gcc now and then update this bug. Created attachment 114947 [details]
bmpx emerge log with gcc 4.1.2 (rest of system same)
different file but again cc1plus process took aroudn 450MB memory before i killed it to save the pc from dying ;)

On #bmpx, they said, it's not a bmpx problam, maybe g++... I'd like to point out that this happens reportedly by muczy also with KMail compilation (also C++, also tons of templates (??)), so this is very likely a g++ issue, and has basically no place as a bmpx bug. This is not a bug about running the software, nor does compilation break because of a source code error. I think that, setting MAKEOPTS to -j1 is a workaround. nope still eats up all my memory .. :( and here's why i hate c++ :( It seems like to me, that there is a sam issue also on ~x86 now... :S Downgrading to =sys-devel/gcc-4.1.1-r3 lowers the memory "waste". Please test also on ~amd64! I've had same issue with bmpx, but also with imagemagick and boost. However, none of them cause any troubles when swap is enabled, which adds 1GB to my allready existing 1GB. It's not an amd64 bug.. getting in on x86.. but I've never even thought about opening a bug for lack of hardware. Pretty funny, IMO. I'd mark this as INVALID. Closing as invalid per Comment #6. |
