Description SpanKY gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 17:45:11 UTC
if there's no compelling reason to keep these in unstable, can we get them stabilized please ? the bitstream font packages are probably the best out there for open source ...

media-fonts/font-bitstream-100dpi
media-fonts/font-bitstream-75dpi
media-fonts/font-bitstream-speedo
media-fonts/font-bitstream-type1

Why do you want these versions instead of using the truetype (ttf-bitstream-vera)? Speedo isn't even supported anymore.
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 22:50:39 UTC
it was my understanding that all were needed, but if that's not true, why not punt these font packages then ?
Comment 3 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-22 23:50:42 UTC
Different packages for different purposes ... basically all current (gtk2, qt3 and newer) stuff can use truetype and type1, but older programs require the 100/75dpi bits. Some people prefer type1 over truetype because it allows more complex equations than quadratics to describe the shapes.

Nobody really cares about pretty text on older programs anyhow. Speedo fonts are probably worth removing.

Well, this bug is done on all arches, with the exception of media-fonts/font-bitstream-speedo, which is unsupported anyway, no need to stabilize that one.

If you want to remove speedo, about time, changing summary accordingly.
