forgot to specify -- x86 architecture, p4, lots of ram, lots of hd space.

I tried it with ARCH="x86" and I get the same error with glibc-2.3.1-r4

glibc-2.3.1-r4 is old...likely the problem has fixed itself in glibc-2.3.2,
which is stable on all archs but arm.  As there has been no new activity
for several months, gonna close this bug as WONTFIX.
