Stupid question: did you enable scsi cdrom support? That abnormal stuff dmesg spews doesn't mean anything. I use SATA (all working) and I get: ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0xEFAF Attach your kernel .config. Created attachment 111765 [details]

no, i don't have scsi cdrom support turned on. adding it right now. i'm really confused about this scsi/sata/pata stuff. it's a mess.
