Attach xorg.conf here, also post emerge --info. I also have this same problem, using ati drivers 8.33.6-r1 I also am using a Radeon Mobility M300 (M22) on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. Running at 1920x1200, depth 24, 32bpp 2.6.18-gentoo-r3 Running vlc/mplayer using xv extension causes the same hard lockup, but if i change the extension, everything runs fine. If, by "change the extension" you mean use x11/SHM or something other than the "xv" extension for video output, then that's what I saw also. Using "mplayer -vo x11" worked fine. Using "mplayer > -vo x11" worked fine. > Yes, currently I have been using the X11 or OpenGL output modes, and no crash at all, but the quality isnt as good, but its not crashing. Mplayer works if do "mplayer -vo x11" but if its using the xv codec, its crashing and burning. This problem seems to be resolved when I updated my ATI drivers to the latest drivers. ( x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.34.8) > XV extension has more fixes in upcoming release, hopefully portage devs will push it as soon as it is released for general audience. Try with some newer version, please. |
