With kernel 2.6.20 problem still persits: ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x1F7 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x1F7 Hmmm... drives do work, if I use the "normal" PATA driver (In reply to comment #6) > drives do work, if I use the "normal" PATA driver > I see a similar abnormal status message with 2.6.19. I can mount and read data from the cd/dvd drive, but I cannot burn. Also hdparm -I /dev/sr0 (or sg0) does not return a full description of the drive. Revert to 2.6.18 and it works again. (2.6.19 was built with ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL disabled, serial ATA + Intel SATA enabled, SCSI CDROM enabled.) Please report this upstream after reproducing with 2.6.21-rc1. The libata PATA drivers are still experimental. with kernel 2.6.21-cr1: pata_amd 0000:00:08.0: version 0.2.7 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:08.0 to 64 ata3: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x00000000000101f0 ctl 0x00000000000103f6 bmdma 0x000000000001dc00 irq 14 ata4: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x0000000000010170 ctl 0x0000000000010376 bmdma 0x000000000001dc08 irq 15 scsi2 : pata_amd ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ata3.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata3.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi3 : pata_amd ata4.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata4.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi 2:0:0:0: CD-ROM PLEXTOR CD-R PX-230A 1.03 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A 2.18 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 Same error with 2.6.12-rc4. pata_amd 0000:00:08.0: version 0.2.8 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:08.0 to 64 ata3: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x00000000000101f0 ctl 0x00000000000103f6 bmdma 0x000000000001dc00 irq 14 ata4: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x0000000000010170 ctl 0x0000000000010376 bmdma 0x000000000001dc08 irq 15 scsi2 : pata_amd ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ata3.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata3.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi3 : pata_amd ata4.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata4.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi 2:0:0:0: CD-ROM PLEXTOR CD-R PX-230A 1.03 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A 2.18 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 Correction of last post: it is kernel 2.6.21-rc4 New kernel version 2.6.21-rc6: relevant part of dmesg: pata_amd 0000:00:08.0: version 0.2.7 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:08.0 to 64 ata3: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x00000000000101f0 ctl 0x00000000000103f6 bmdma 0x000000000001f000 irq 14 ata4: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x0000000000010170 ctl 0x0000000000010376 bmdma 0x000000000001f008 irq 15 scsi2 : pata_amd ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x00000000000101f7 ata3.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata3.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi3 : pata_amd ata4.00: ATAPI, max UDMA/33 ata4.00: configured for UDMA/33 scsi 2:0:0:0: CD-ROM PLEXTOR CD-R PX-230A 1.03 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 scsi 3:0:0:0: CD-ROM _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A 2.18 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 Do you have any problems using these devices, or is it simply the error messages which concern you (but things are working fine)?
