net-wireless/rt2570 1.1.0_beta2 "eats" the last character of iwconfig essid.
I was told by gwingerde@kpnplanet.nl that the version in CVS fixed this
problem.

It would be nice if an ebuild for the CVS version was created.

hi same issue here with 2.6.19-gentoo-r1 (amd64) and 2.6.19-suspend2-r2 (x86).
I did a snapshot from the last cvs revision of rt2570: 20070902 
(like for bug #165432 no cvs ebuilds ), it was tested with both these two kernels and archs, the result is good: no more essid truncation
