To cut down compile times on some of my machines that are not so strong with CPU power, I've started using gnome-light. That's also why I prefer mozilla-firefox-bin over the standard compile-from-source package.

What annoys me is that gnome-light still tries to pull in the source-based version of firefox for yelp, althought I never use the help function anyways.

So my suggestion is to include yelp (and thus compile firefox) only if the "doc" use flag is set.
