Splashutils needs stat during boot process when /usr isn't still mounted.
Could you add stat in /sbin ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install media-gfx/splashutils-1.3-r2
2.Install /usr in an other filesystem than root
3.Recompile the kernel with an initramfs and a splash screen
4.reboot


Actual Results:  
Some weird messages in verbose boot mode

Expected Results:  
A clean friendly screen

Fixed in CVS. Please wait for the change to propagate to the mirrors and remerge splashutils.
