Description Morten P.D. Stevens 2007-01-03 12:51:33 UTC
I install samba (net-fs/samba-3.0.22-r3) with the following use flags: USE="mysql pam python readline syslog winbind xml"

Cups is not installed on this system.

But in the sylog samba is reporting about a printing failure.

Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: [2007/01/03 21:30:03, 0] printing/pcap.c:pcap_cache_reload(159)
Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcap for read!

Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcap for read!

In the smb.conf there a no printers. So it can only be a bug in the samba ebuild.

This is not a support forum; kindly read samba documentation and use forums.gentoo.org or samba mailing list for support questions if you have troubles with configuring samba properly.

The same configuration works on a Debian Server with Samba 3.0.22 without problems.

Only on Gentoo with Samba version 3.0.22 i receive this error in the syslog.
