dev-ruby/rmagick depends on media-gfx/imagemagick. Currently stabilized are rmagick-1.9.3-r1 and imagemagick-6.3.0.5 but rmagick won't compile. It takes rmagick-1.14.1 to compile against recent imagemagick releases newer than 6.2.9.

Also noteworthy is that imagemagick will need to be compiled with the 'gs' useflag set lest rmagick will fail to install.

I'm closing this bug, see #162682 for a request to stabilize rmagick-1.14.1-r1 which does not cause installation problems for many people.

Exactly what is the difference other than that you filed that other bug yourself sometime later?

As mentioned in bug 162682 the -r1 revision solves bug 159833 and bug 160042.
