*** Bug 159422 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Which driver and version are you using? thanks for looking, does this help: ------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------- modinfo ipw3945 filename: /lib/modules/2.6.19-suspend2-r1/net/wireless/ipw3945.ko description: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Network Connection driver for Linux version: 1.0.5mpr author: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation license: GPL vermagic: 2.6.19-suspend2-r1 SMP preempt mod_unload PENTIUM4 -------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<------- and net-wireless/wpa_supplicant-0.5.4 net-wireless/wireless-tools-28 net-wireless/ipw3945-1.0.5 net-wireless/ipw3945-ucode-1.13 net-wireless/ipw3945d-1.7.18 This should be fixed in ipw3945-1.1.3, will need to be stabilized for 2.6.19 kernels... Please test and report back. Things seem to be getting worse (before they'll get better i hope ;) having upgraded as you suggested, i am now unable to even "see" the interface: ------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------- bison ~ # iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. ieee0 no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. -------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<------- it doesn't start the daemon automatically, when i do it by hand i have serious doubts that it loads the firmware and the controller led can't even be bothered to just flicker. i guess the snippet below could be a hint, especially the "permission denied" part: ------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------->8------- bison ~ # ipw3945d --foreground ipw3945d - regulatory daemon Copyright (C) 2005-2006 Intel Corporation. All rights reserved. version: 1.7.22 Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection found at: /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw3945/0000:0c:00.0 2007-01-02 03:30:39: ERROR: Could not open '/var/run/ipw3945d.pid': Permission denied -------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<-------8<------- i am quite optimistic that i would be able to get it working, but i think it may be better to have it fixed in the distro if its not just a glitch in my system File a new, unrelated problem. it does the same again :-( this time with driver versions: * net-wireless/ipw3945 Latest version available: 1.1.0-r1 Latest version installed: 1.1.0-r1 Size of files: 191 kB Homepage: http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net/ Description: Driver for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG miniPCI express adapter License: GPL-2 * net-wireless/ipw3945-ucode Latest version available: 1.13 Latest version installed: 1.13 Size of files: 59 kB Homepage: http://www.bughost.org/ipw3945/ Description: Microcode for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG miniPCI express adapter License: ipw3945 * net-wireless/ipw3945d Latest version available: 1.7.22-r4 Latest version installed: 1.7.22-r4 Size of files: 58 kB Homepage: http://www.bughost.org/ipw3945/ Description: Regulatory daemon for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG miniPCI express adapter License: ipw3945 Uhm, what does the same again? I told you to use ipw3945-1.1.3 and you can back to complain that 1.1.0-r1 does not work? Of course it does not, noone ever said it does. This is fixed in >=1.1.3-r2, read the fine Changelog. ipw3945-1.1.3-r2 (08 Jan 2007) 08 Jan 2007; Robin H. Johnson <robbat2@gentoo.org> +ipw3945-1.1.3-r2.ebuild: Add support for 2.6.20, and essid name patch. Go test the fixed version, not the broken one; report back once you've done so. Ok i'm sorry, the last update was a "downdate" in this respect the old version sneaked in unnoticed because i didn't put it in /etc/portage/package.unmask (only in ...keywords) now it back working the -r2 version didn't compile though, from the tone of your response i assume you have enough stuff else on you so don't bother the base version is just fine |
