Description Arto Viitanen 2003-02-18 01:36:09 UTC
The installation documentation does not tell what to do when installing over
an existing Linux system. Particulary, it does not tell that to use software
raid, one has to run the "evms" program, instead of trying to load (nonexisting)
md -module.
That was my problem. It might be suitable to mention something about software
raid for those who install onto a clean system. The documentation says that only
partitiontypes 82 and 83 can be used. For softraid, type fd is better, since
root can be on a software raid filesystem, if partition is of type fd.

you dont have to use the program evms to use software raid ...

as for the 'md' module, it is a real kernel module, it represents 'Raid Support' in 2.4.x
kernels ...

Agreed w/ spanky, and what partition type is fd?
Comment 3 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-05-04 06:49:41 UTC
fd: Linux raid auto
Comment 4 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-05-07 03:53:25 UTC
This has been around long enough. I'm taking this one... It only requires a minor change to the docs (mentioning 'fd' for software RAID partitions).

Fixed in CVS.
