OK,I know,There is something wrong with "xcb". libxcb is not stable enough to use. Oh,sorry, "xcb" is one of the problem. There is another reason: ~$ cat ~/.xsession-errors /etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp /etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "yangtse" /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... Launching a SCIM daemon with Socket FrontEnd... Loading simple Config module ... Creating backend ... Loading socket FrontEnd module ... Starting SCIM as daemon ... Launching a SCIM process with x11... Loading socket Config module ... Creating backend ... Loading x11 FrontEnd module ... GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.5 Starting SCIM as daemon ... SCIM has been successfully launched. Smart Common Input Method 1.4.5 /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: /usr/bin/ssh-agent -- gnome-session SESSION_MANAGER=local/yangtse:/tmp/.ICE-unix/4734 (gnome-theme-manager:4843): capplet-common-CRITICAL **: generate_theme_thumbnail: assertion `async_data.set == FALSE' failed No running windows found Confirmed for x86. Using fglrx. I could temporarily fix this by doing this: -Open "Computer" on your desktop -Go to /usr/bin -Open gnome-terminal -Become root in screen -/etc/init.d/xdm restart -Login -killall gnome-panel Untested, but might also work: -Open "Computer" on your desktop -Go to /usr/bin -Open gnome-terminal -killall gnome-panel -(if the panel now disappeared, start gnome-panel) tulcod-desky / # emerge --info Portage 2.1.2.7 (default-linux/x86/2007.0/desktop, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.5-r2, 2.6.20-gentoo-r8 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.20-gentoo-r8 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1500+ Gentoo Base System release 1.12.9 Timestamp of tree: Sun, 20 May 2007 15:50:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.4 [enabled] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31-r5 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.16 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo ftp://mirror.scarlet-internet.nl/pub/gentoo " LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LINGUAS="en nl fr de eo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --filter=H_**/files/digest-*" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aac aalib acl acpi alsa ao apache2 ati berkdb bitmap-fonts blender-game bzip2 cairo cddb cdr cgi cli cracklib crypt ctype cups curl cvs dbus divx dri dvd dvdnav dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd evo fam firefox flac fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gnome gnutella gnutella2 gpm gstreamer gtk hal iconv imlib ipv6 isdnlog jack jack-tmpfs java jpeg kde ldap libg++ libvisual mad matroska mbrola midi mikmod motif mp3 mpeg mplayer msn mudflap mysql ncurses nls nojoystick nptl nptlonly ogg openal openexr opengl openmp oss pam pcre pdf perl php png portaudio pppd prediction python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime rar readline real realmedia reflection samba sdl session silc sndfile sox spell spl sql ssl stream stroke svg svn swat tcpd tiff timidity truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode v4l v4l2 vorbis wifi win32codecs wmf wmp wmv x264 x86 xcb xml xorg xprint xscreensaver xv xvid zip zlib" ALSA_CARDS="als4000" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en nl fr de eo" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx v4l v4l2" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS I have not had any trouble with this after disabling xcb (i don't know why i had it enabled, to be honest :D) Anyone who CAN disable xcb: do so to solve this. I'm not sure this has anything to do with xcb USE flag or with fglrx driver. When you kill X it doesn't necesseraly kills all gnome processes (notably because of bonobo servers). You can get gnome-panel still running after killing X and that's it fails on next login. I'm tempted to say CANTFIX here because there is nothing we can do if you play dirty with your processes :) whoever still having this bug please add a comment :) |
