as posted on http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-514767-highlight-amarok+updating+collection.html

amarok seems to be continually rescanning the collection.some elements from emerge -ep amarok:

[ebuild N ] dev-db/mysql-5.0.26-r1
[ebuild N ] virtual/mysql-5.0
[ebuild N ] media-libs/libgpod-0.4.0
[ebuild N ] media-libs/taglib-1.4
[ebuild N ] media-sound/amarok-1.4.4-r2

I think bugzilla is the better place for it

Please, don't refer to forums.g.o. for bug descriptions, it's just wasting everyone's time. Post all relevant info here, then reopen.

After additional testing, the continual rescan was resolved by dropping the amarok database in MySQL. Alowing amarok to rebuild the collection db from scratch seems to cure it.

The additional symptom that hinted at database version difficulties, was the collection scann's failure to fully complete.I'm afraid i don't know my previous MySQL version so I can't give any further information about the incompatibility.

Well, since it's working now, this bug can be closed. On that note, we have a howto on upgrading MySQL:
