Description Vrai Stacey 2006-12-16 09:51:01 UTC
If I comment out the Load "GLX" line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf then X starts, albeit without any GLX support. With GLX enabled (i.e. the state it was in prior to the XOrg upgrade) the X server doesn't even get as far as the NVidia logo - it produces a screen full of garbage and then shuts down.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

This is in the working configuration - with "Load GLX" commented out.

Attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log; the output of nvidia-bug-report.sh and post exact drivers version. Reopen then.

I've attached the nvidia-bug-report.log and Xorg.0.log. Apologies for the duped upload, I thought the transfer had stalled.

I'm using NVidia driver version 1.0.963 with udev 103.

<snip>
NVRM: not using NVAGP, an AGPGART backend is loaded!
</snip>

Remove the following line from xorg.conf:

Option       "NvAGP" "1"

Anyway, your hardware is apparently not sane, kernel is spewing tons of error messages about your CPU.
Comment 9 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-16 11:06:35 UTC
The Xorg.log is not useful, need to check the one from crashed Xorg. Anyway, we can't debug broken hardware, sorry.
Comment 10 Vrai Stacey 2006-12-16 11:19:26 UTC
For prosperity - the Xorg.0.log *was* from the crashed server, the removal of the NvAGP line didn't fix it and the non-fatal MCE errors are a known, ignorable problem.

I'll try the forums.
