No, we can't and won't depend on particular kernel version in ebuilds; that doesn't work at all w/ slotted kernels. As stated, it has dead upstream (no new release for almost 3 years) and we have no intention to become upstream for this package. Thanks for the clarification. I guess all the breakage is the price to pay for issuing a gentoo-sources on and unstable kernel number. Thinks have been pretty compatible for a while but 2.6.19* seems all over the place. Seems this particular patch (inode-diet) was badly thought out from the outset and the various attempts at limitting the damage have only added to the confusion and breakage of this sort of package. I hope lessons have been learnt. thx There's a patch in Bug 148381, Comment #15 if you want to try, but as said, upstream is dead and noone is willing to keep patching this thing over and over again any more. Sorry. *** Bug 158517 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** i don't agree with removal for minor API change i'm keeping care of that, and Daniel Drake did some patches too. i see no problem keeping it in the tree as far as we can keep it running on latest kernels. i don't understand if the "CLOSED WONTFIX" resolution means you planned to remove or not. (In reply to comment #5) > i don't agree with removal Re-read Bug 148381 and this one as well; this is not staying in the tree because we are tired of working on behalf of non-existant upstream. > for minor API change i'm keeping care of that, and Daniel Drake did some > patches too. Daniel Drake is not interested in wasting time on this any more; again see Bug 148381. ok i missed that bug. now i know the situation and i do agree. maybe i'll keep it on a overlay, but i hope a new mainteiner will come out. # Daniel Drake <dsd@gentoo.org> (12 Dec 2006) # Broken again with new kernel release, no maintainer, no upstream # Masked for removal on 2nd Jan 2007 sys-fs/submount @dsd - please remove this :) thanks, done I can support it. Please return this into portage tree:) And i want start work from bug #158517 :) ------------ Sorry for my very bad english :(( If you want to maintain this, you need to become a Gentoo developer. This involves building up a collection of contributions on bugzilla, then focusing on a certain area, finding a mentor, and getting recruited.
