Don't know exactly when this started occuring but when I'm in kde (sorry, no other window manager on the system - it may not be a kde issue) and open a terminal (normally konsole but xterm has same issue) /etc/profile is no longer sourced.
Logging into a new tty (ctl-alt-F2) works fine as well as "su - username" to the same user from within the non-sourced terminal - the "su -" seems to cause it to become sourced but of course it doesn't stay that way once the su'ed shell is exited.

I think this is a change in bash. I moved the "code" (a couple of aliases and some bash history control) that I added to /etc/profile to /etc/bash/bashrc and it seems to work fine.

Looks like:
1) your pb is solved, and it was related to some of your bash settings
2) since it also affected your xterm session it was not really konsole related
3) nobody had the same issue meanwhile

This bug should be closed.
Can the reporter please close this bug?
