When trying to emerge kdegraphics with dependencies on gphoto2 enabled in /etc/make.profile/make.defaults, the 
package refused to build because of an unresolvable dependency on  media-gfx/gphoto-2.0_beta1, which is no 
longer present.  The current correct version is media-gfx/gphoto2-2.0_r1.  By making that change in the 
kdegraphics-3.0.ebuild file, the dependency was resolved and the build/emerge operation proceeded as normal.
