Description Graham Cox 2006-11-10 11:53:28 UTC
Updating to the latest ati-drivers on my AMD64 causes XOrg 7.1 to fail to load. Examining the XOrg logs reveals the exception trace:

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 8. Server aborting

Masking ati-drivers-8.30.3 and ati-drivers-extra-8.30.3 and re-emerging these (causing version 8.29.6 of each to be installed) fixed this allowing XOrg to successfully load again.

AIGLX is not supported by ati at this time. Simply disabling AIGLX will solve your problem.

This is likely an upstream problem and/or fixed in more recent versions of ati-drivers. Can you reopen this if it still happens with 8.34.8 and provide an updated crash log? Closing CANTFIX for now since I'm pretty sure this was an upstream problem.
