*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 146600 *** This is NOT a duplicate of #14660. #14660 is a report that the installer crashed upon seeing an unknown partition. It was resolved as not a bug since this was the intended behavior upon seeing an unknown partition. THIS is a bug report about the behavior of the partitioner that has absolutely nothing to do with invalid partitions or failures. This is a report that the partitioner should not partition a disk that doesn't need to be partitioned. Perhaps I should have been more clear in my original report. By mixing motivation for the report with the report itself I may have given the impression that this was about a failing installer; it's not. This is a moot point now. The installer will not continue past the partitioning screen if there are 'unknown' partitions. No, it's not a moot point, as this bug had nothing to do with the installer failing sooner or later. This is a bug about the partitioner involving itself with the installation process when there was no partitioning to be done in the first place. With regard to this bug the functionality is equally flawed whether it bails out now or later. To restate it as clearly as I can: if the disk doesn't need partitioning at all, the installer shouldn't even think about partitioning, whether partitioning will be possible, or when to bail out if partitioning can't be done. Reopening as this bug has not been addressed in any way. Geez. I don't care. I'm still not fixing it. The upcoming release will be the last one that does partitioning this way, so I've really stopped caring. I love your customer service skills. If you're not going to fix it that's one thing; but to state an incorrect reason for not fixing it is simply sloppy and inappropriate. "customer" implies payment...so when you start paying agaffney to develop an installer, you can criticize him, call what he does sloppy and inappropriate, but not one single moment before that. *** Bug 159549 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** From reading the comments of this bug we have reason #783784378324 why Linux will remain a niche operating system, a serious data destroying bug doesn't affect the developer personally, so it can wait for some other release. Resubmitting bug an indefinite number of times. |
