perhaps this would be a good one to point out.

when you run a static dev, the lvm-startup.sh script will fail creating the necessary devices as /dev is (by default) on a root which at that point still is read-only.

chased this one down today ;)

added a small note to /etc/conf.d/rc in the static dev section
