media-fonts/ttf-jgaramond
This ebuild provides Jan Thor's Garamond fonts. They are TTF in roman, italic and bold form. bold-italic is missing.
Did that ebuild ever get added to portage? I don't see it in here. Would this be useful to include? Garamond is a pretty normal font for Windows users I think, I seem to receive content with that font frequently. (In reply to comment #2) > Did that ebuild ever get added to portage? If `that' is ttf-jgaramond, then no. It's self-made ebuild for free-as-speech font similar to proprietary Garamond. Unfortunately Jan Thor abandoned the maintenance so I can't see reasonable chance to include it into portage. Actually I have small modifications to this font, so maybe I could take maintenance of the font (not ebuild---I'm not Gentoo developer) over. Petr, thank you for ebuild. BTW, you can maintain ebuild in sunrise overlay: http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise/wiki So if you have time/will to maintain ttf-jgaramond package you can also maintain ebuild there... Some information from how to get this font is on ttf-jgaramond page http://www.janthor.com/jGaramond/index.html : "If you want to use a Garamond font that comes for free, I recommend using the Garamond that ships with recent versions of the Microsoft OS. If you want a font with support for a wide range of characters, I recommend Arial Unicode. And if you need a good-looking Garamond type, I recommend you to purchase Adobe Garamond Pro. Although it’s not free, it is a really great looking font with a lot of neat stuff, like true small caps and old style figures." Also you can substitute system wide this Garamond font on any font you wish using fontconfig. Thus current resolution is... I'm unaware about free and maintained Garamond fonts for linux, and existed project are unmaintained now. You have either use fonts from windows or buy font or substitute it somehow. So currently I just can't fix this bug. |
