I confirm this error. Different hardware. 2.6.20-rc5 kernel. skype 1.3.0.53-r1. Motherboard intel-hda sound. The first call goes fine. After the first call I can hear but the mic stops works (muted?). All other sound apps work properly (after I kill skype). Tried with and without esd under gnome. Tried with kde and icewm. Tried with and without kernel oss emulation. (In reply to comment #1) > I confirm this error. Different hardware. 2.6.20-rc5 kernel. skype 1.3.0.53-r1. > Motherboard intel-hda sound. I think we'll never be able to get sound working properly. On my amd64 I have the same problem (emu10k chipset sound card). I have to close skype, restart alsasound (/etc/init.d/alsasound restart), restart kmix, and finally start again skype. Then, it works. As regard my notebook, which has a snd_hda_intel chipset, I can't get it working. Sound is quite distorced. Let's have a look here: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=73654&hl= I'm giving up... That's no way :('''''' Well... 1/ Do NOT use arts; ever... 2/ Try with skype-1.4.0.74-r1 3/ OSS emulation is not useful now, skype uses ALSA. 4/ If you have troubles w/ in-kernel drivers, then try media-sound/alsa-driver instead. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml I didn't realise this bug was still open. The machines on which I had trouble are no longer being used for this application, but I can report that I have no problems with Skype 1.3.0.53-r1 (which has been masked since I installed it) on AMD64. I should point out that I use neither ESD nor ARTS (won't have 'em on my machine) and run everything as pure ALSA. As far as I'm concerned, it is no longer an issue but I cannot speak for others. |
