when i ssh into the locked machine, i can see that xfree is taking up more then 99% of cpu-time. i don when i ssh into the locked machine, i can see that xfree is taking up more then 99% of cpu-time. i don´t know why this happens, nor what triggers this behavior. however after searching the web i found that several other people had this problem too. it seems this problem is not gentoo specific, it seems that it is nvidia specific, especially it occurs on boxes which have an geforce 2 mx, but i saw reports from other people with geforve 3 and geforce 4 graphic cards. however i managed to avoid locking up my box by doing the following steps : first i switched to nvagp interfaces (xfree4-config option nvagp), then i turned off renderaccel (also xfree-config option render-accel), after that i switched to kde-2 and at last i turned explicit off fast-writes and sidebandadressing (module option), after doing these steps i rebooted and voila, everything was like it should be. i have a asus k7v motherboard, which has an via kx133 chipset, i don´t know if it this chipset which causes the bug. but for now i had no lockups, so this bug doesn´t count for me. but anyway i hope you, or someone else will discover what causes this bug and fix it. good luck jon sven jonsson jon, is this issue still relevant with 4.3.0-r2? closing due to no follow-up from the reporter. |
