Or it could involve the game's default configuration scripts. These could be remedied in the ebuild. I enabled write for group games for "/opt/savage/game" and subdirectories, this alone didn't fix it. Then i copied the modified configuration file it saves into ~ and typed "exec current.cfg" in the game's console. This magic incantation seems to have solved the problem on my system. We cannot exec stuff from within the game via an ebuild. If you have a solution that's workable from an ebuild, feel free to mention it and I'll do it. Otherwise, I'm calling it upstream.
