In section 2.c of the handbook (for instance in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?style=printable&full=1#book_part1_chap2), one can read :

You can download any of the Installation CDs from one of our mirrors. The Installation CDs are located in the installcd/ directory.

However, only the minimal installcd lives there, the livecd is in livecd/ on the mirrors. Also, the full path (releases/<arch>/current/...) should probably be given in order not to confuse people.

Actually, the handbook you are referring to is *supposed* to use the minimal LiveCD. Networkless handbooks point to the proper location for the networkless LiveCD. The given path locations are correct.

Sorry, but this is totally unclear.
In 2b, you say that :

The Installation CDs that we currently provide are:
* The Gentoo Minimal Installation CD, [...]
* The Gentoo Installer LiveCD [...]

And then in the sentence I was refering to

You can download any of the Installation CDs from one of our mirrors. The
Installation CDs are located in the installcd/ directory.

Unless I miss something here, it means that you can also find the livecd in installcd/.

If this is not the case or there is some english trick somewhere, please consider changing the formulation, as I don't think I'll be the only one to understand it like this.

re-closing for above reasons, and after discussing it with nattfodd on IRC.
