Currently app-emulation/dosemu has =sys-libs/slang-1.4* dependency, but it's Changelog claims it supports slang 2 since the end of 2004.
With following patch it seems to build fine with slang-2.app-emulation/dosbox

sys-libs/slang-2* is package.masked, so...

So...? I have an ebuild for a snapshot of mc, which uses slang 2 and works just fine.

Can you make the patch so it supports both slang 1 and 2 (and preferrably uses 2 if available)?
And then push it upstream?

Well, the problem is that my patch solves a Gentoo-only problem - you have decided to rename =>slang-2.0.0 to libslang-2, now you have to face those problems alone. Dosemu supports slang-2 out of the box, but only if it's libslang.
