strace of compiz

perhaps this can point to the error?
Comment 4 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-26 07:58:51 UTC
What DE are you using? If it's Gnome add a "killall metacity" at the beginning of the script. For some reason it's not replacing metacity for you. If you're using KDE I believe it's kwin. I think Hanno knows about this issue.
Comment 5 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-09-26 19:33:59 UTC
What window manager? Seems your windowmanager doesn't want to go away on --replace. I had this problem in the past, but current kwin and metacity both should play well here.
Comment 6 Johannes Köster 2006-09-27 10:08:32 UTC
I use kwin inside kde. I've added killall kwin to the script, but this does not help. when I remove the --replace from both gnome-window-devorator and compiz they complain about a running wm and advice me to add replace. But kwin shouldn't be active if I killed it before right?
Comment 7 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-09-27 17:17:30 UTC
You shouldn't need that killall, kwin should respect the --replace-option.
Is it possible that kwin runs on another user??
Comment 8 nedrandersoff 2006-09-27 18:05:18 UTC
Hey, I'm having the same problem... i810, compiz-quinnstorm, KDE 3.5.latest. In both AIGLX and XGL I get the same term output (except in aiglx it's display: 0.0 instead of 1.0). I've been having this problem for quite a while now. Compiz-manager doesn't work; compiz --replace doesn't work; I'm lost.
Comment 9 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-09-27 19:01:16 UTC
Johannes: Looks like you're using xgl?? (because display :1)
xgl isn't really supported atm. Please mention if you're using inofficial overlays.
Comment 10 Johannes Köster 2006-09-28 01:02:19 UTC
No, this is due to using qingy as login manager. it sets X to display 1 as default. But changing this to display 0 does not help.
Comment 11 Johannes Köster 2006-09-30 16:22:28 UTC
I did use your overlayn hanno, but now I use the official portage tree.
Comment 12 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-10-04 14:36:20 UTC
I don't know how qingy works, but is it possible that you have more than one xserver running?
Comment 13 Johannes Köster 2006-10-05 03:42:12 UTC
This is indeed possible with qingy, but in my setup its not the case.

I don't know if this is the right place to file the bug i see, the result is the same, but the error differs.

When I start compiz-aiglx I receive

compiz: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: undefined symbol: inflateInit_

and my windows stop having borders. I have to manually start metacity to have my desktop back working.

Compiz was working flawlessly until a few days ago, so it's not a problem of configuration.
I use compiz-0.2.0 as 0.3.2 needs some part of gnome-2.16 and I'm running on stable.
Comment 15 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-11-26 07:59:29 UTC
Tomasso, your problem is completely unrelated here, you just have some api-breakage, running revdep-rebuild should fix that. Btw, I won't support any 0.2/gnome-2.14-setups any more, I'll remove 0.2 as the ebuild is broken in many ways.

Johannes: Does this problem still remain?
Comment 16 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2007-01-28 12:19:49 UTC
no reply, so closing, please re-open if problem still exists.
