Description Daniel Westermann-Clark 2006-09-22 09:48:12 UTC
There seems to be a problem with the WANT_AUTOMAKE declarations added as a result of bug 148420 with current stable vlc:

Here are the contents of /var/tmp/portage/vlc-0.8.4a-r1/temp/automake-16269.out:

***** automake *****

configure.ac:20: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.8.5,
configure.ac:20: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.ac:20: comes from Automake 1.9.6. You should recreate
configure.ac:20: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Fixed now, forcing latest version of autotools, and should be fine." Simply resyncing my tree, updating software and then trying revdep-rebuild again provided the same error.

In my case, resync'd, re-emerged and now all works fine.

changing WANT_AUTOMAKE=1.8
within the ebuild-file into
WANT_AUTOMAKE=1.9
and then
ebuild "PATH-TO-PORTAGE"/media-video/vlc/vlc.0.8.4a.ebuild digest
emerge vlc
helps. As long as the ebuild on the mirror in not fixed, a resync does not change anything.
Comment 12 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-23 04:17:08 UTC
The ebuild is fixed in CVS and should now be fixed in all mirrors. If it's not, just wait and it will appear.

Well this probably helps in many cases, but it does not in mine... I still get the

ld: cannot find -llzo

error during compilation (details are in post #8). Does somebody know where this library should come from? I thought it was ffmpeg, remerging it didn't help. Disabling the ffmpeg USE flag helps. The keyword-masked version 0.8.5-r5 merges fine (it does not have the ffmpeg USE flag).

This bug is about automake and has been closed. Don't pull completely unrelated stuff here.
Comment 15 Martin Slota 2006-09-23 12:26:54 UTC
I'm sorry. I will post a new bug. Nevertheless I don't think it is completely unrelated but probably it is not related enough to the subject of the post.
Comment 16 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-23 12:35:44 UTC
The only thing that relates the two is that they are both in VLC. This is *not* a good reason.
Comment 17 Martin Slota 2006-09-23 12:46:21 UTC
Well, that's not exactly what I meant. I think they are a bit more related than just being both bugs of vlc. I came to this impression through the fact that vlc compiled fine just 10 days ago (and also ever before), and then failed on some missing library when a newer automake was used. But probably this is also not a good reason, even if I was pretty sure there was a connection between the two bugs, which I'm not. Sorry again.
