gnome-panel bug report tool reports this error upon longin. and keeps reporting constantly over and over.

Would be nice to actually post the gnome-panel version. Also, backtraces without debugging symbols are not much useful:

gnome-panel-2.16.0 and it doesnt show any debugging symbols. i can barely login theres nothing but a black desktop. i had to login to fluxbox just to get into internet. everytime i login i have to emerge cairo. . i put all the gnome-2.16.0 packages in package.keywords and package.unmask. so it should work

Have you tried a revdep-rebuild any time recently?

yes i have and even then it crashed.. i dont know what happened. so im now proceeding to revert back to the previous version of gnome until i can work this bug out.
