Bug 148111 – Live CD 2006.1 sparc64 - ifconfig hangs

I just tried the 2006.1 minimal Live CD on my Netra 1125 (Ultra 60 motherboard). It has two network interfaces, an onboard Sun HME interface, and a Sun Cassini giganet interface. Both get detected at boot, and the modules sunhme and cassini get loaded.

However, whenever I try to do anything with ifconfig (i.e. ifconfig -a, ifconfig eth0), the command hangs indefinitely and can't be interrupted with ^C. Of course, this prevents me from downloading and installing anything at all.

Have you checked for media errors?
This is not a blocker since it's working for many people (including me).
It's far more likely a media error or the cassini driver having issues (we never got a positive or negative result for those from our users, it's been built for testing purposes).

Please try "rmmod cassini" then trying to run ifconfig and see if that resolves the issue for you.

Tried that. The rmmod command hangs too.

Try booting with "nohotplug" and see if it helps.  You'll need to manually load your network drivers, then, but would should be able to see which one is causing the issue.

Can you verify that this is still and issue with 2008.0 Beta 1?

Unfortunately, I cannot verify anything regarding this bug at the moment. The system on which I originally reported it, a Sun Netra 1125 (Ultra 60 motherboard) no longer works at all. :-(

I did salvage the offending Sun Cassini card from the system, but this is a 64-bit PCI card and I don't currently have any other system in which it will fit. All my other Sun systems only have 32-bit PCI slots.

I'm looking into getting a replacement, but I do not know when, or even if, this will happen. I might be able to secure a recently decommissioned Sun Enterprise 220R from work, which has the same motherboard if I recall right.

Until then there is nothing I can do, sorry.
