I emerged glibc-2.4 and whenever I want to compile something, I get the error:

/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../libc.so: file format not recognized; treating as linker script
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../libc.so:5: syntax error

I replaced glibc-2.4 with an older version (precompiled) and everything worked again. /usr/lib/libc.so lookes like a valid script. It contains

/* GNU ld script
   Use the shared library, but some functions are only in
   the static library, so try that secondarily.  */  
OUTPUT_FORMAT(elf32-i386)
GROUP ( /lib/libc.so.6 /usr/lib/libc_nonshared.a )
