I just installed gentoo 1.0 for the first time yesterday and there was no 
documenation on how to add a user and how to make sure /etc/passwd has 
/bin/bash after the username you just added.  Than once you creat a user there 
should be documentation on how to allow you to su to root by making sure your 
user is in the wheel group. This is very confusing to someone coming from 
redhat and I think it should be in the Gentoo Linux Desktop Configuration howto
