In the Gentoo Linux Documentation: Step 10; a note should be made about the 
environment varible RSYNC_PROXY.  If the user is behind a firewall (like me), 
they will get errors running the "emerge rsync" command.  A simple environment 
varable of 

# export RSYNC_PROXY="hostname:port" 

will keep the ball rolling.  The DOCS as of step 10 are great,... I still have 
a few to go :-)

Hopefull this could help out a couple of people who are firewall bound.
